Men's Rugby at Armada
Saturday was a rugby day for the Tritons for one of their final games of the preseason. The team set up for a friendly game against the local Armada
rugby club. After a close game with the Mira Costa Community College a few weeks back, the team wanted another chance to come out swinging before the winter break.
As the team readied up for a long hour and a half of playtime, the boys wanted to lay out all they had before the break. After a long back and forth between the two teams, the Tritons slipped and let go a run for the Armada to score within the first quarter. The Tritons went over their mistakes and fly half A.T. and center Michael Andrews broke their line leaving an easy score for George McMahon to walk in around the Armada, leaving the score even by the second quarter. The third quarter was back and forth as the Armada pushed for another score but the last play of the quarter ended with lock Judah Word running through 3 tackles and over 60 meters to even the score by the end of the quarter. After a strong play in the fourth quarter led by A.T., George McMahon and Jonathan Reyes leaked out a try right over the goal line ending the quarter with the lead. By the end of the fifth and final quarter, scrum half Jonathan Reyes broke through the line for a score but was just held up, thus ending the game 3 scores to 2 in the Tritons’ favor.
It was a long game for everyone involved but the Tritons know what they have to improve on in the incoming months for the season. They boys wish to come out onto the field for their next challenge at the UC Rugby Invitational at UCLA in January and get ready for the upcoming season.
